DEAR EDITOR,
I recall Freddie Kissoon’s letter in the Kaieteur News, in which he mentioned that CANU was canoed by the polygraph test.
This is only one of my many letters on the polygraph issue and the pending appointment of a head of the organisation.
I suspect that there will be more writings when the announcement is made. I am told that among the persons interviewed was a former Police constable and a former mechanic helper of GAWU.
I am advised that senior persons were interviewed, too, but remember we are talking about a primary drug fighting unit in Guyana, whose leader is expected to interact with Government functionaries, leaders of diplomatic missions, the DEA, the FBI and members of sister organisations both in Guyana and abroad.
That person should be a person of good standing, who will command the respect of many. Will the two persons mentioned above fill the void?
Imagine one of these persons is head of CANU and has to represent Guyana at an international forum. Canu is presently like a car without an engine. Are we really serious in the fight against drugs?
I am sure that the delay in appointing a competent officer to be in charge at CANU is causing setbacks in the fight against drugs. I hope that the powers that be allow good sense to prevail and make the right choice.
I am sure that the US Government is taking note, because a great amount of the drugs reaches the USA as final destination. Sookram Samaroo
