NEW AMSTERDAM, BERBICE – Two men, one of whom was wanted for murder, are in police custody after a ganja bust on the Canje River on Tuesday.
According to police reports, a marine patrol intercepted a boat in the vicinity of the Torani Canal on the Canje River. The vessel was said to be heading in the direction of New Amsterdam at about 10:30 hours.
One of the men, a 44-year-old of Savannah Park in New Amsterdam, allegedly had a bag containing 500 grams of what is suspected to be cannabis sativa in his possession.
The other man, a 53-year-old of Takuba, some 27 miles up the Canje River, was found at a house on a farm in the area. He was said to have some 900 grams of the suspected prohibited item in his possession.
He was on the run for almost two years. According to police, he was wanted for the murder of his daughter whom he has been accused of poisoning.
