Gaskin & Jackson Jewellers offers support to GABA
Struggling to keep apace with the speediness of support from the business community, the Guyana Amateur Boxing Association (GABA) was once again the recipient of a sizeable donation in aid of its National Open Championships when city jewellers Gaskin & Jackson made a presentation of $100,000 yesterday at the entity’s location on Camp Street.
Given in support to off-setting expenses required to make the event a reality, Managing Director of the Company Dean Jackson handed over a cheque to GABA President Affeeze Khan in the presence of other officials of the Association and members of the boxing team who are scheduled to participate in the Commonwealth Youth Games set for October 12-22 in Pune, India.
According to Jackson, the donation is to assist the GABA in providing certain important services such as a Public Address System, rental of chairs, the procurement of medallions for the respective winners and any other miscellaneous expenditure that might occur during the three day championships which runs from July 20-22, at the National Gymnasium.
According to an official of the GABA over 100 boxers from across the various regions countrywide are expected to participate in the tournament with accommodation and meals being provided for those residing out of Georgetown.
Meanwhile, the group of boxers selected to travel to India will depart for Trinidad and Tobago next Tuesday to compete in the Caribbean Amateur Boxing Association Championships.
They are being sponsored by Ansa McAl, Scotia Bank, DeSinco Trading, Modern Optical and the Guyana Olympic Association.
