Where is the minister’s illegal road reserve usage team?
DEAR EDITOR,
I am aware that the Honourable Minister of Public Works has an ongoing programme to stop and prevent the illegal use of the country’s road reserves. Does this only apply to main roads?
I certainly hope not, because I would like to bring to his attention the use of the Mocha road reserve by two individuals.
Firstly, a contracting firm has been occupying an area along the Mocha road reserve closest to the East Bank Public Road for a few years. I assume that they were granted temporary use for some Government project, but have since overstayed this period.
Secondly, a waste management company has recently begun parking several of its garbage and transport trucks on the reserve.
These trucks are sometimes left partially on the roadway, and pose a safety treat as the stretch of roadway is poorly lit. It is observed that the garbage trucks have also been parked overnight with collected garbage. I am sure that this should draw the attention of health officials.
I am no expert on road maintenance, but as I travel into Mocha each day, I have noticed that only the sections of roadway directly in front of where these companies occupy are deteriorating significantly.
These companies would not be the ones to suffer, as they use trucks and won’t feel the effects of numerous potholes.
