The Parrot speaks – Licking lollipop and seeing ghosts
The Parrot is aware of what old people does seh in relation to some who claim to be able to see “spirits” or ghosts. They say that for you to be able to see those “things” you have to born with something call “caul”.
I recall some many years ago, my mother was holding my tiny toddler hand whilst walking home one evening. Mom had just bought me a lollipop and whatever “lessons” she was giving me then during that walk, have faded from my memory. However, I will not forget for the rest of my Parrot life what happened during that walk whilst I “licked” my lollipop.
Excited as I was with my lollipop, which was a good excuse not to pay any heed to what Mom was saying, I was suddenly pushed aside by Mom and I recall her saying “get out of the way son”. Her push forced me to the ground causing my lollipop to slip from my grasp. I started to cry, and after what looks like an eternity to me then, Mom came and picked me up and started to console me. I asked her why she pushed me and I vividly remember her saying that “someone had to pass and I was in their path”.
Not seeing anyone pass I thought that my loving mother was going “loco”. I told her that I didn’t see anyone to which she replied “son, some things which you can’t see and may never see, I can”. That reply still haunts me today.
Later in life when she thought I was old enough to understand, she told me that she has the ability to see “spirits” and “ghosts” since she was born with “caul”. I stood still for a while trying to understand what she was saying. I was now afraid knowing that my mother can see “jumbie”.
Her explanation for “caul” is some sort of “scarf” or skin tissue that covers the face of some babies at birth. According to her, the “scarf” gives the “beholder” the unique power, fortunately or unfortunately, to see God’s “other creations”; “spirits”.
Growing up and having had similar experiences with others, I realised that it wasn’t only my mother who was “blessed” with this “power”. They are others amongst us in all walks of life.
The Parrot, being a regular reader of the Uncle Freddie column, has noted his frequent comments on what he believes to be “ghost” writers, who according to him, write letters using pseudonyms. I would like to ask him why only those who write letters that are favourable to the administration are labelled as “ghost writers?
How come those writers who write letters that attack the administration are not labelled as “ghost writers”? How come Uncle Freddie knows the “ghost writers”?
The Parrot can only conclude that for Uncle Freddie to know the “ghosts” amongst the writers, he must be in possession of similar “powers” like my Mom. If he doesn’t, then, according to old people, if you ain’t born with “caul” and you seeing “ghosts”, then most likely the “ghosts” see you as one of them, or is it his experience growing up in close proximity of a known final-resting place? Squawk! Squawk!
