(Kaieteur News) – The Golden Jaguars will look to take another significant step towards a return to the Concacaf Gold Cup when they face Dominica in the first of two League B, Group A encounters in Puerto Rico in the Concacaf Nations League.
Guyana will meet Dominica at 5:00 pm today at the Mayagüez Athletics Stadium in Mayagüez, before the two teams meet again at the same venue three days later, on Sunday.
The double-header presents the Golden Jaguars with an opportunity to strengthen their position at the top of Group A and move closer to securing a place at the 2027 Concacaf Gold Cup.
Guyana has made an impressive start to the 2026/27 Concacaf Nations League campaign under new head coach Marco Bonofiglio, winning both of its opening matches without conceding a goal.
The campaign began with a 1-0 victory over Puerto Rico at Windsor Park in Roseau, Dominica, with Osaze De Rosario converting a second-half penalty to settle the contest.
The Golden Jaguars then produced another clean-sheet performance, defeating the Cayman Islands 2-0. De Rosario and Liam Gordon found the back of the net, with both goals coming from assists by Omari Glasgow.
With six points from two matches, Guyana currently sits atop Group A in League B, while Puerto Rico has three points following its 2-0 victory over Dominica.

Osaze De Rosario has scored in each of the team games for the Golden Jaguars in League B of the Nations League.
Dominica and the Cayman Islands have one point each after playing to a goalless draw in the opening round of matches.
The upcoming matches, therefore, carry considerable importance for all four teams, but the Golden Jaguars enter the Mayagüez fixtures with the advantage of knowing that two victories would put them in an extremely strong position to finish as group winners.
The 2026/27 Nations League is particularly significant because it serves as the qualification route for the 2027 Concacaf Gold Cup. The four League B group winners will qualify directly for the region’s premier men’s national-team tournament.
Guyana’s pursuit of qualification also carries historical significance. The Golden Jaguars made their Gold Cup debut in 2019, and a successful Nations League campaign would give the country another opportunity to compete on Concacaf’s biggest international stage.
For Bonofiglio and his squad, however, the immediate task is Dominica.
The Golden Jaguars have demonstrated defensive discipline in their opening two matches, while De Rosario has already emerged as a key contributor in front of goal. Glasgow’s creativity and the team’s ability to convert opportunities will again be important against a Dominica side looking for its first victory of the campaign.
