Ogle house fire under probe, three homeless – Guyana Fire Service
(Kaieteur News) – The Guyana Fire Service (GFS) on Monday said an investigation has been launched to determine the cause of a fire which destroyed a house at Lot 13, Area G, Ogle, East Coast Demerara which has displaced three persons.
According to a brief statement on the Fire Service’s Facebook page, upon arrival at the scene, firefighters encountered a building fully engulfed in flames, with the fire threatening a nearby structure.
“Through swift and coordinated firefighting efforts, the blaze was brought under control and prevented from spreading further. Unfortunately, the building and its contents were completely destroyed, while two nearby buildings sustained minor damage due to heat radiation,” GFS reported.

Kaieteur News learned that the home belonged to APNU’s Region Four Councillor, Mr. Skeik Yaseen who lived with his son and daughter-in-law.
Yaseen was at a nearby shop when he was alerted that his house was on fire. At the time, his daughter-in-law Zebina Yaseen was alone downstairs sleeping.
The 51-year-old woman told this newspaper that she lived downstairs with her husband while her father-in-law lived upstairs.
Narrowly escaping the blaze, Yaseen said she was awakened by noise coming from upstairs. She shared that “I woke up and watch the camera and when I watch the camera, I see a set of people in the yard already I thought something happened.”
After managing to get the grill and door opened, she continued, “I run out and when I watch I see fire start dropping.”
Clad in only her sleepwear, the woman said she could not have saved anything. “I don’t know what happened upstairs because I was sleeping. By 8 o’ clock, I was already in my bed. Nobody was not upstairs at the time,” she related.
“My father-in-law tell me that he come upstairs and when he come, he open the door and so and then left shortly to go by the bar, and when at the bar somebody call him and told him his house on fire and I was downstairs here, and he thought I wasn’t home,” she related.
She said the fire started upstairs somewhere at the back section.
This publication reported that the fire started around 22:30hrs on Sunday night. The fire was observed shortly after nearby residents heard a loud explosion. The Guyana Fire and Rescue Service were called to the scene, with three fire tenders responding.
