(Kaieteur News) – Actions gat consequences. When yuh is a sweetman, yuh does end up sleeping pon de couch — if yuh lucky. If yuh really unlucky, yuh does end up sleeping in de dog house, and de dog does get de bed.

When yuh get irritable bowel syndrome, yuh does end up sleeping pon de toilet bowl. When yuh gat to go, yuh done deh, deh already. Yuh nah gat fuh worry if yuh can mess up yuhself. At least de toilet always available. It might be de only place in de house where nobody asking yuh questions.

But de wuss is when yuh gat irritable wife syndrome. It does cause some men fuh stutter when dem talking. Some men does suddenly discover dat silence is not only golden but also a very good survival strategy.

Dat is why dem boys believe dat when yuh gat irritable wife syndrome, yuh does end up sleeping pon de couch. By yuhself! And if yuh ask why, de answer does be, “You know why.” And if yuh say yuh don’t know why, yuh does discover dat was de wrong answer.

Actions gat consequences!

When yuh try fuh rig elections, yuh does end up wan outcast. When yuh get invite to diplomatic parties, yuh does end up standing alone. People does keep away from yuh as if yuh gat smallpox. Even de waiter does pass yuh and pretend he suddenly remember dat he got something important to do in de kitchen.

But no matter how bad yuh is, when yuh gat power, yuh like a flower to a bee and like a hat to bald head. People does flock by yuh side. Everybody does want shake yuh hand, smile fuh de camera and tell yuh how wonderful yuh is.

When yuh lose power, however, dem same people does suddenly develop amnesia. Yesterday yuh was “Boss.” Today dem can’t remember if dem ever meet yuh.

Power does attract people like moths to a flame. De problem is dat moths does not always realise dat flame can burn dem.

And de funniest thing is dat some people does believe de crowd around dem is because dem is popular. No, boss. Sometimes people ain’t following you because dem like you. Dem following you because yuh got something dem want.

Behind yuh back, dem does be laughing at yuh. In front yuh, dem laughing with yuh. And sometimes, dem laughing before yuh even finish talking.

Just like how dem did laugh at de man wah was standing all alone or de man wha nah get invited.

Dem boys does always say: If yuh spend years burning bridges, don’t be surprised when yuh find out dat nobody wants to give yuh a lift across de river.
