J&W TRAINING AND CONSULTANCY ENHANCES OPERATIONS, STRENGTHENS QUALITY THROUGH GNBS 901 CERTIFICATION
(Kaieteur News) – As Guyana’s construction, mining, agriculture and other key sectors continue to expand, the demand for skilled, safety-conscious heavy equipment operators continues to grow. Meeting that demand is J&W Training and Consultancy, a Guyanese-owned company that provides heavy equipment training and consultancy services to clients looking to build their skills and capacity.
Managing Director, Chavez John, said that the company was established after recognising the need for qualified operators who understand not only how to operate heavy equipment, but how to do so safely and responsibly.
“As the country’s economy continues to expand, particularly in mining and construction, there has been an increasing demand for qualified operators,” John explained. “Our mission is to provide quality training programmes and consultancy services that meet international standards while preparing competent operators for Guyana’s growing industries.”

As the organisation expanded its operations across Georgetown, Linden, Berbice and Essequibo, maintaining consistency across all locations became increasingly important. This led the company to pursue certification to the GYS 901 Quality Management Systems (QMS) through the Guyana National Bureau of Standards (GNBS). The certification was designed specifically for Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs).
“We wanted to strengthen our internal systems and demonstrate our commitment to delivering consistent, high-quality training services,” John said. “We also wanted our customers to have confidence that they are choosing an organisation that values quality, professionalism and accountability.”
Before implementing GYS 901, the organisation relied largely on experience and informal processes. However, its continued growth highlighted the need for standardised procedures, stronger documentation, improved record management and more structured methods for monitoring customer satisfaction, which the GYS 901 certification provides.
John added, “We improved document control, strengthened our record-keeping system and introduced more structured methods for monitoring customer satisfaction and continuous improvement. The certification process also increased our awareness of quality management.”
John acknowledged that adapting to a more structured way of operating required commitment from the team, but said the organisation successfully navigated the process through teamwork, continuous learning and guidance from the GNBS.
Since achieving certification, J&W Training and Consultancy has experienced improved organisation, greater consistency in service delivery and stronger communication with clients. “Achieving the GYS 901 QMS was an opportunity to raise our operations and to continually improve the way we serve our clients,” the managing director emphasised.
“We have become better organised and more consistent in how we deliver our training,” he said. “The certification has also strengthened customer confidence because they know we are committed to recognised quality management principles.”
John described the GNBS certification programme as a valuable investment that extends beyond obtaining a certificate.
He is encouraging other MSMEs to pursue GYS 901 certification, describing it as an investment that improves efficiency, builds customer confidence and creates a culture of continuous improvement.
Looking ahead, the company plans to continue strengthening its quality management system while expanding its training programmes and investing in additional equipment to better serve Guyana’s growing workforce.
Next month, J&W Training and Consultancy will celebrate three years in operation, having trained nearly 500 operators across Georgetown, Linden, Berbice and Essequibo. John added that the organisation remains committed to maintaining the highest standards of professionalism, quality and safety while contributing to Guyana’s continued development.
