(Kaieteur News) – Dem Boys seh Guyana gat road works all over de place. Everywhere yuh turn, machine ah digging, asphalt ah rolling and people complaining because traffic moving slower than a lazy donkey in de midday sun.
But while new roads rising, some old roads look like dem done surrender. Take Lombard Street, just outside GNEC. Right deh sit one manhole so deep and so wide that it look like it applying fuh become a swimming pool.
Every driver who know de road does swing away from it. De result is that a two-lane road suddenly become one lane because everybody trying to save dem suspension, steering ends and wallet.
Dem Boys seh if yuh drop a coconut in dat hole, yuh might hear it land sometime next week. One taxi driver seh he hit de hole once and afterwards he steering wheel was pointing east while de car was travelling west.
De Ministry of Public Works really need a pothole patrol. Not one wah waiting fuh somebody complain pon Facebook, but one driving around every day looking fuh roads crying out fuh repairs.
Dem heavy trucks pounding de roads day and night. Some roads wearing out faster than a cheap pair of rubber dinky slippers. By de time one patch finish dry, another hole done open up round de corner.
And talking about trucks, Dem Boys can’t understand why some people feel de roadside is a parking lot fuh container trucks and big trailers. And nuff a dem deh park at de side of de Diamond Bypass. Yuh does wonder whether that is trailer graveyard rather than a road.
Dem Boys hope de authorities ain’t waiting fuh somebody drive straight into one ah dem parked trailers before action get taken. Too often, people only start looking fuh solutions after somebody get hurt.
Dem Boys seh prevention cheaper than condolences. Patch de dangerous holes before dem swallow a vehicle, and move dem container trucks and trailers before dem become permanent roadside monuments.
Because in Guyana, if yuh dodge a pothole yuh might hit a parked trailer. And if yuh dodge de trailer, yuh end up in another pothole.
Talk half. Leff half
