20-year-old remanded for ‘Cat’s’ murder

(Kaieteur News) – A 20-year-old man was on Friday remanded to prison for murdering his friend and workmate, 27-year-old Naresh Seecharran.

The suspect, Parmeshwar Lionel, of Lochaber Village, West Canje Berbice, appeared at the Whim Magistrate’s Court before Magistrate Tuana Hardy, where he was charged with murder.

It is alleged that on 6^th July, 2026, Lionel, called ‘Small Man’, murdered Seecharran, called ‘Cat’ at Port Mourant Village, Corentyne.

He was not required to plead to the indictable charge and was remanded to prison awaiting his next court appearance on 31^st July, 2026.

Seecharran was a construction worker who resided at Williamsburg, Corentyne and Glasgow, East Bank Berbice.

Police reports stated that the father of one was fatally stabbed by the suspect after they were both among several other friends who were all consuming alcohol.

The incident took place at Haswell, Port Mourant. According to information reaching this publication, and argument brewed between the two friends, which escalated to an altercation. Seecharran was then stabbed to the neck by Lionel.

The deadly incident occurred late last Sunday evening, based to police reports.

Seecharan’s mother, Radha, of Glasgow Village, told this publication in an interview last week said she last heard from her son on Sunday afternoon via phone call. The intoxicated man told her he loves her, and that he wanted to come home. She then asked one of his friends, Balram, to take care of him for the evening, and told her son that she will come for him the next day.

Later on, the man’s employer reached out to her at approximately 11:45 on Sunday evening.

“He boss man call me and seh ‘Aunty Radha, Small Man (the suspect) bore Cat to he neck’. I said ‘is anything serious?’ he said he don’t know, leh we hurry,” she recounted.

She and other relatives immediately journeyed to the Port Mourant Hospital. They were not successful in locating her son at the time of their arrival.

Another relative would relay information that he was at Babu Jaan. Upon reaching the location, Naresh was later discovered lying motionless in a puddle of his own blood, across a street. He was taken to the Port Mourant Hospital where he was declared dead on arrival. His body was then transferred to Ramoo’s Funeral Home.

“He does mek jokes, and some of them workers does tek it serious, but he is not a person to fight. I really want justice for my son,” the grieving mother shared.

Seecharran was the third of four boys, and leaves behind his wife and his three-year-old daughter. He was laid to rest on Sunday.
