(Kaieteur News) – A 20-year-old pregnant woman was killed and buried in a shallow grave at Chelsea Park, Mahaica, East Coast Demerara (ECD).
The dead woman has been identified as Kerriana Stanford, of Ann’s Grove, ECD. Stanford, the mother of a two-year-old child, had been missing for a week before her body was found.
A 24-year-old porter of Chelsea Park, Mahaica, ECD, who is reportedly Stanford’s boyfriend, has been arrested in connection with her murder.
Kaieteur News understands that the porter allegedly confessed to killing the young woman and burying her in a shallow grave. He reportedly told police that he and Stanford had an argument, during which he killed her, and that he buried her body at the back of a property at Chelsea Park after becoming fearful.
Investigators believe the murder occurred on Friday, July 3, 2026, at about 20:00hrs, at Chelsea Park, Mahaica. Preliminary investigations revealed that Stanford had visited the porter’s home shortly before she was reported missing.
Her body was found six days later, on Friday, July 10, 2026, buried in a shallow grave at the back of the property. Acting on information received, police visited the property and discovered the remains.
Further information gathered during the investigation led ranks to the suspect, who was arrested at Enmore, ECD, and taken to the Mahaicony Police Station, where he remains in custody.
The body was taken to the Mahaicony Cottage Hospital, where Stanford was confirmed dead on arrival, before being transferred to Bailey’s Funeral Home to await a post-mortem examination.
Investigations are ongoing.
