(Kaieteur News) – President Dr. Mohamed Irfaan Ali used a Town Hall Meeting in Saint Lucia on Tuesday evening to encourage Guyanese living overseas to invest, return home and participate in Guyana’s ongoing development.
The meeting, hosted by the Guyana/Saint Lucia Association at the Financial Administrative Center in Castries, attracted a large audience and formed part of the President’s engagement with the Guyanese diaspora while attending the 51st Regular Meeting of the Conference of Heads of Government of CARICOM.
President Ali was accompanied by Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Hugh Todd, Minister of Public Service, Government Efficiency and Implementation Zulfikar Ally, and National Security Advisor Captain Gerry Gouveia.
During the engagement, the President outlined Government initiatives in infrastructure, healthcare, education, housing, technology and digital services, while highlighting investment, employment and educational opportunities available in Guyana.
The meeting also featured an extended question-and-answer session, allowing members of the diaspora to raise concerns and seek clarification on issues affecting them and the country’s development. President Ali and members of his delegation responded directly to questions from attendees.
Guyana’s Honorary Consul to Saint Lucia, Richard Cheong, welcomed the turnout, saying it reflected the diaspora’s continued interest in developments back home.
Public Relations Officer of the Guyana/Saint Lucia Association, David Christopher, thanked President Ali and his delegation for meeting with Guyanese living in Saint Lucia and said the Association remains committed to strengthening links between the diaspora and Guyana through investment, trade, education and cultural exchange.
The event formed part of the President’s programme while in Saint Lucia for the CARICOM Heads of Government meeting.
