Guyanese like point finger
(Kaieteur News) – Dem boys seh in Guyana finger got more exercise than foot. Some people don’t walk to facts; they just point.
Build a nice house? “He tiefing.”
Buy a new pickup? “Something nah right.”
Open a supermarket? “Money washing.”
Plant ten acres of cassava? “He know people.”
Buy two fowl and a goat? “Wait till CID hear.”
Nowadays, all yuh got to do is prosper and half the country suddenly become forensic accountant. Is amazing how people who cyan balance dem own cheque book can calculate another man’s wealth down to the last bag of cement.
Dem boys seh Guyanese got a special calculator. It don’t add mortgages, bank loans or financing. It only got one button: “Corruption.”
The funny thing is that nearly every big building going up today got one silent partner. Not uncle. Not overseas relative. Is the bank.
Go ask any businessman. Go ask any contractor. Go ask people building them dream home. The bank own more of them house than the owner does. If the owner miss a few payments, the bank don’t even knock twice. It simply remind yuh who really sleeping in the master bedroom.
But some people behave as if banks only lend money to foreigners and Martians.
Now politics enter the picture, and everybody become quantity surveyor, poultry expert, valuer, engineer and financial analyst all before breakfast. One man look at a chicken pen from the roadside and calculate profit six weeks into the future. Dem boys seh if he could predict business so good, Wall Street woulda hire he tomorrow morning.
Questioning public officials is fair. Dat is democracy. But pointing finger without proof is like bowling before putting up the wickets. It make plenty noise but nobody really out.
Dem boys seh accusation cheap. Evidence expensive.
And finger-pointing got one serious problem. Every finger pointing at somebody got three pointing back. Plus one pointing straight up, as if asking the Almighty to rescue common sense from public debate.
Because in Guyana today, some people don’t investigate first. They conclude first and hope the facts catch up later.
Dem boys seh that is not accountability. That is guesswork wearing a necktie.
Talk half. Leff half.
