Two arrested for weed in chips container
(Kaieteur News) – Two persons were on Thursday arrested after being found with marijuana. The duo, a fisherman and a miner, was intercepted in a wooden passenger boat which was docked at 7th Avenue, Bartica, Essequibo River.
Police in a statement on Friday said that the interception occurred between 14:40hrs and 15:00hrs Thursday while ranks were on a mobile patrol.
The chips container which contained the marijuana.
“During the exercise, ranks contacted the occupants of a wooden passenger speedboat which was docked along the shore at Seventh Avenue, Bartica. A search was conducted on the belongings of a 33-year-old fisherman of North Ruimveldt, Georgetown, during which a quantity of leaves, seeds and stems suspected to be cannabis was found in a blue Lays chips container,” the statement said.
Further searches conducted on the 35-year-old miner, who hails from Vreed-en-Hoop, revealed a quantity of leaves, seeds and stems suspected to be cannabis.
Both men were arrested and taken to the Bartica Police Station, along with the narcotics.
When weighed collectively the marijuana amounted to 70 grams.
