(Kaieteur News) – The Dora Police Academy, which is under construction along the Soesdyke–Linden Highway, will soon see the government through the Ministry of Home Affairs spending approximately $229 million more on the project, to construct the electrical control room.
The National Procurement and Tender Administration Board disclosed that bids were recently opened and seven contractors applied for the contract.
The Dora Academy spans 228.85 acres. The new state-of-the-art facility will feature advanced training classrooms, administrative offices, and residential accommodations. The academy was designed to provide comprehensive training, administrative support, and comfortable lodging, all aimed at cultivating a world-class police force that serves and protects with professionalism and skill.
Permanent Secretary of the Home Affairs Ministry, Andre Ally inspected works on Academy in May 2025, where he received an update on the six key components of the academy under phase one. The six elements carry a price tag of $645 million.
At that time, the ministry said that the construction of the Instructors Building was 85% completed, with a contract sum exceeding G$61 million. That building will house key training personnel and provide a dedicated office and preparation spaces for instructors overseeing police training programmes. The main training school, a critical component of the academy, was at 15% complete on a project valued at over G$130 million. Once finished, it will offer modern classrooms and facilities designed to support a rigorous and dynamic training curriculum.
The female barracks, was 79% completed and is being constructed at an estimated cost of over G$84 million. This facility will provide safe, secure, and comfortable accommodation for female police trainees.
Additionally, the lecture hall, budgeted at over G$87 million, was 10% completion at that time. It will be used for seminars, presentations, and large training sessions, complementing the main training school by providing additional space for instruction and professional development.
The Permanent Secretary had also received a briefing on the kitchen facility, a vital support component valued at over G$181 million, and on the completed access way construction, valued at G$102 million, which will facilitate the smooth entry and exit to the academy grounds.
During his visits, Ally stated “The Dora Academy will serve as a cornerstone in developing a modern, competent, and professional police force, equipped to meet the evolving demands of national security and public safety,” Mr. Ally stated.
