Internationally acclaimed Argentine-Spanish baritone Leonardo López Linares ( left) and EU Ambassador to Guyana, Luca Pierantoni were on hand last evening when the newly formed Euro-Guyanese Classical Music and Opera Association successfully staged its inaugural evening of classical music and opera at the historic St. George’s Cathedral in Georgetown.
López Linares, celebrated for his powerful voice and commanding stage presence, launched his international career after winning First Prize at the Luciano Pavarotti International Voice Competition in Philadelphia in 1995. The victory led to a collaboration with Pavarotti in Opera Extravaganza, where he performed the role of Marcello in La Bohème.
The Euro-Guyanese Classical Music and Opera Association is the brainchild of Ambassador Pierantoni and brings together the Clemsville Music Conservatory, Dewar’s Music School, the Guyana Music Teachers Association, Mitchell’s Mount Academy and the Symphonic Orchestra of Jesus.
