Kaieteur Sports – Most Valuable Player Darren Dublin saved his best performance for last, producing a clutch, championship-winning display on Sunday to propel Queen’s College to the top spot in the Georgetown playoffs as Youth Basketball Guyana (YBG) concluded its Georgetown-City Regionals at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall.

With a championship on the line and a chance to play in the NSBF Conference, Dublin sliced through Tutorial High School’s defensive schemes with confidence and precision, pouring in a game-high 12 points to lead Queen’s College to a commanding 37-28 victory. The standout guard also played a pivotal role on the defensive end, forcing three key turnovers that halted Tutorial’s momentum and kept the challengers chasing throughout the contest.

The triumph capped a remarkable playoff campaign for Darren Dublin, whose accuracy and consistency were instrumental in securing the top spot in the Georgetown Conference standings.

While Dublin provided the scoring spark, Deshaun Garrick delivered a complete two-way performance that proved equally vital to Queen’s College’s success.

Garrick contributed eight points and seven rebounds, repeatedly coming up with crucial plays during pivotal stretches of the game. His on-court chemistry with Dublin was evident from the opening tip, as the dynamic duo relentlessly attacked the basket and combined for 20 points in a dominant offensive display. Liam Bart also made his presence felt, adding eight points and providing valuable support as Queen’s College maintained control en route to the title-clinching victory.

Tutorial High School battled valiantly despite the defeat. Keion Lynch, Julian Charles and Xavier Scott refused to surrender, with Scott anchoring the defence through an impressive eight-block performance. The trio fought to erase a fourth-quarter deficit, but Queen’s College’s composure and execution down the stretch proved too much to overcome.

When the final buzzer sounded, Queen’s College celebrated an 11-point victory and the coveted Georgetown-City championship trophy.

Earlier in the day, St. Roses’ High School secured third place with a dominant 57-29 dismantling of The Bishop’s High School.

Shaquan Callender orchestrated the victory with an outstanding all-around performance, finishing with 16 points, three rebounds and five steals. Fellow sharpshooter Christian Williams matched his output with 16 points of his own as St. Rose’s controlled both ends of the floor from start to finish.

For Bishop’s, Kemol Pickering’s 12-point effort stood out as the lone bright spot in an otherwise difficult outing. St. Roses’ relentless offensive pressure and defensive intensity ultimately paved the way to a comfortable victory and a third-place finish in the Georgetown Conference.
