(Kaieteur News) – Dem boys seh if yuh ever see a kitchen with three cooks and one big pot but no cover, yuh don’t need to be a nutritionist to know what happen next. One pot, three hands, and suddenly one person swearing de soup taste perfect while de rest wondering if salt get rationed.
That is how dem watching this whole “uncapped” business going on. One side seh leave it open, de other side seh put a cap on it. But dem boys seh de real trouble ain’t the cap itself—it is what happen when there is no cover on de pot.
Because once de pot uncapped, heat does do strange things to fairness. One ladle start to behave like a shovel, another like a teaspoon, and before yuh know it, somebody stirring with confidence while somebody else studying de bottom like archaeology.
Dem boys seh in theory, everybody got access. In practice, access does have personality. One hand does always reach first, reach longest, and reach most comfortable like it pay rent in de kitchen.
And den come de argument: “But is all de same pot!” True. But if one man dipping ten times while another dipping twice, then is not de pot that wrong—it is de absence of rules over de pot that causing de fight.
Dem boys seh this is why people does like caps. A cap does behave like a lid, like discipline, like that one strict auntie who does stand up in de kitchen and seh, “If yuh take again, yuh washing dishes.”
Without de cap, everything does become interpretation. One man calling it “a reasonable serving,” another calling it “just a lil taste,” and somebody else already packing takeaway like is a survival exercise.
And de irony sweet like condensed milk. Because when de pot full and steaming, everybody does talk unity. But the moment one ladle start behaving like it own Parliament, unity does suddenly need clarification and committee review.
Dem boys seh fairness is not about making everybody eat same spoon size, because life ain’t kindergarten lunch line. Fairness is making sure nobody turn de pot into personal property while telling everybody else “yuh welcome.”
So dem boys seh put a cap on de pot—not to starve anybody, but to stop de soup from developing political ambition.
Because once de pot start serving one hand more than de others, it don’t matter how good de recipe is.
De argument does always end up over who drinking broth… and who only smelling steam.
Talk half. Leff half.
