(Kaieteur News) – A 23-year-old porter of Wismar, Linden was on Thursday killed in an accident at Long Creek, Soesdyke-Linden Highway. The dead man has been identified as Isiah Malachi Williams.
According to the Guyana Police Force (GPF), the fatal accident occurred at about 21:30h and involved a truck bearing registration number GRR7067 that was driven by a 31-year-old man of One Mile, Wismar, Linden.
“Initial enquiries revealed that the motor lorry was proceeding south along the eastern driving lane of the highway, reportedly at a fast rate of speed, when the driver lost control of the vehicle and collided with the left-side rail of a concrete bridge,” police said.
As a result of the collision, the driver and Williams were flung from the vehicle. Another occupant, a 27-year-old porter of Wismar, Linden, was pinned in the vehicle.
The driver and both occupants were taken to the Linden Hospital Complex, where Williams was pronounced dead on arrival.
The driver and the other occupant were examined by a doctor for lacerations about their bodies. They were treated and sent away.
Williams’ body was taken to the Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, where it awaits a post-mortem examination.
A breathalyser test was conducted on the driver of the truck; no trace of alcohol was detected.
The driver is in police custody assisting with investigations.
