Two of three men wanted for AK-47 rifles surrendered
(Kaieteur News) – Two of the three men, wanted by the Guyana Police Force (GPF) for possession of firearms without licence, surrendered to police on Thursday.
The GPF in a statement said that 21-year-old Gregory Anthony Persaud, a wash bay attendant, called ‘Greg’, of Farm, New Housing Scheme, East Bank Demerara and Antonio Alonzo Lawrie called ‘Lanzo’, a wash bay owner also of the same area, presented themselves to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) headquarters in Georgetown, accompanied by their lawyer.

The duo is in custody assisting police with their investigation. Last week, the police published a wanted bulletin for the three men in connection with a major firearms bust in Berbice, Region Six.
On 22nd May, 2026, Stephen Rajah, who is believed to be their accomplice, was arrested and charged. Rajah, a taxi driver, of Goed Fortuin Village, West Bank Demerara, was last Thursday remanded to prison after being charged for possession of firearm and ammunition without license.

He had appeared virtually at the New Amsterdam Magistrates’ Court before Magistrate Michelle Matthias. He was unrepresented and pleaded not guilty.
The charge read that on 22nd May, 2026, at No. 11 Village, East Coast Berbice, he had in his possession ten firearms (AK47 rifles) without being the holder of a firearm licence.
The ten AK-47 rifles were discovered on May 22 during a police operation along the No. 11 Village Public Road, East Coast Berbice.

Rajah was denied bail after the prosecution summed up that he was a proven flight-risk. The prosecution told the court that the accused escaped the police when he was first intercepted. The prosecution also convinced the magistrate to consider the large quantity of the firearms, and also the nature of the firearms. The case was made too that Rajah was conspiring with other individuals to smuggle the firearms into Guyana, which could lead to the commissioning of further offenses.
During a stop-and-search exercise at the Berbice River Bridge Access Road, Rajah, who was driving a Toyota Fielder Wagon motor car, bearing registration number HC 9018, was stopped. Rajah allegedly drove away from the ranks and escaped eastward.
Acting on information, ranks later searched along the No. 11 Village Public Road, and shortly after, the AK-47 rifles were found wrapped in plastic and cloth.
The weapons were taken to the Central Police Station, where they were lodged..
Rajah was eventually caught at Nabaclis, East Coast Demerara.
He is scheduled to return to court on 15th June, 2026.
Meanwhile, the other wanted man, Ryan Singh, called ‘Satan’, of Parika, East Bank Essequibo, remains at large.
