Another ferry vessel for Region One arrives in Guyana
The new roll-on/ roll-off vessel – Kalliopi N
(Kaieteur News) – The Ministry of Public Works announced that a new roll-on/ roll-off vessel – Kalliopi N which will ply the Region One route has arrived in Guyana on Wednesday.
Public Works Minister Juan Edghill accompanied by Transport and Harbours Department’s General Manager, Yolanda Hughes, Maritime Administration Department (MARAD) Director General, Captain Stephen Thomas and other staff toured the new 50-meter vessel at the Kingston Goods Wharf.
The Kalliopi N, a 2024-model vessel was built in Greece.

According to information shared by the ministry, Minister Edghill disclosed that the vessel will be assigned to ply the Region One route. “The president himself will do the commissioning at the appropriate time which will be shortly and will be the commissioning of the boat and three wharves: the New Kingston Goods Wharf with a new terminal building; the Mabaruma Wharf with the fantastic new terminal building as well as the new Manawarin wharf and the new facilities.”
The minister also highlighted that the region will now be serviced by four vessels, which will significantly improve transport and connectivity for the people of the North-West District.
The new vessel which is fully air-conditioned has a capacity to carry 264 passengers, 82 cars and 19 trucks.
