Notice to our Readers
(Kaieteur News) – Kaieteur News management has been receiving numerous complaints from readers across the country who are unable to find the printed newspaper in their communities. We acknowledge this concern and wish to explain the circumstances behind this situation.
The challenge lies primarily with the incentives available to our vendors and distributors. Our vendors rise as early as 5:00 am, leave the comfort of their homes, and spend long hours in the dew, sun, and rain to sell newspapers. Yet, after selling as many as 50 copies, their earnings amount to just $1,000. This level of return does not provide a meaningful incentive.
Similarly, our distributors—who ensure that newspapers reach vendors and distant communities—are facing increasing transportation and operational costs, making it increasingly difficult to sustain delivery across the country.
At the same time, while the national economy may appear strong on paper, many businesses are struggling and are no longer able to advertise as they once did. This has led to a significant decline in advertising revenue. The situation has already resulted in the closure of Stabroek News. That newspaper was owed substantial sums for government advertisements. Kaieteur News itself is owed even larger amounts for government advertisements dating back to 2023.
As the only remaining independent newspaper in Guyana, Kaieteur News plays a critical role in providing credible, fearless, and independent journalism. Its survival is therefore not just a business matter, but one of national importance.
In order to continue operations and provide better incentives for our vendors and distributors, we have made the difficult but necessary decision to adjust our prices. If the newspaper is to reach you daily, then those who deliver it must be fairly compensated.
These price changes will take effect from Monday, June 1, 2026, as such, the daily edition will cost $200, and the Sunday edition will cost $260.
We ask for your understanding and continued support as we take this step together. With your partnership, Kaieteur News will continue to inform, protect, and serve the people of this country—ensuring that independent journalism not only survives, but thrives in Guyana with truth, courage, and commitment, now and into the future.
