“Young entrepreneurs play an important role in society by bringing fresh ideas, creativity and innovation. They create opportunities, inspire others to pursue their passions, and contribute to economic growth in their communities.”
As we honour our mothers today for their resilience, sacrifices and unconditional love, we would like to highlight and celebrate a mother who does it all, Dr. Britny A. Mack, the proud owner of a laser engraving business called ‘KATTY Engraves’
Twenty-six-year-old, Mack is not just a mother and entrepreneur; she is a medical doctor who has contributed significantly to Guyana’s sports landscape having been a powerlifter during her teenage years. Dr. Mack holds the Commonwealth records that have remained unbroken for nine years, along with earning numerous medals throughout her athletic journey.
In a recent exclusive interview with this publication, she said she started KATTY Engraves in January 2025, and it is a laser engraving business where she creates personalized products, combining her passion for creativity with her desire to build something of her own.
When asked what really inspired to get into business, she explained “My love for crafting and bringing ideas to life inspired me to start my business, turning my passion into purpose and creativity into income.”
For those not familiar, ‘KATTY Engraves’ is a business which creates personalized items such as gifts, home décor, and business products. It turns simple ideas into beautiful, lasting pieces that you as customers can cherish or use to represent your brand.
Having been operating the business for a little over a year now, the woman stated that support has since been amazing.
She elaborated “My fiancé believed in me and helped me get started, my mom supports me by helping with my daughter, and my friends and colleagues continue to support my business. I’m truly grateful for my amazing support system.”
While the support and feedback has been good over the past months, Dr. Mack said her entrepreneurial journey just like any other had its fair share of challenges.
She shared that one of the main challenges she faced was balancing her time between work, family, and building her business. She added there was also a financial burden in getting started, along with the trial and error of learning the engraving machine and perfecting her products.
Despite this, she noted, each challenge helped her grow.
“I overcame these challenges by staying consistent and believing in my vision. I took the time to learn from my mistakes and practiced to improve my skills,” she related. While she is still learning as she goes, she mentioned that she is still working on strengthening her financial management as the business grows. She is confident that with the support of her family, she will be able to manage and keep pushing forward.
As KATTY Engraves is still growing, Dr. Mack said her long-term goal is to expand her business beyond where it is today. That is offering a wider range of personalized products, building a strong brand presence, and creating a reliable source of income.
Already on the road of turning her passion into a lasting, successful business, she hopes through her craft she can inspire others to do the same.
Speaking of inspiring others, our featured entrepreneur is of the view that “Young entrepreneurs play an important role in society by bringing fresh ideas, creativity, and innovation. They create opportunities, inspire others to pursue their passions, and contribute to economic growth in their communities.”
That being said, she suggest that to boost small businesses locally, is for there to be more support through the access to funding, training programs, and mentorship opportunities. She added “Increasing awareness by encouraging people to shop local and providing better platforms for marketing and exposure would also make a big difference.”
