(Kaieteur News) – A friend said to me, Glenn, the day people realize that eddo, cassava and rice with that cash grant, will never tek them out of poverty… is the very day they will stop voting like their future is for sale to the highest bidder on election day.
Look at that headline,
A Canadian firm, that is sitting on over 92,000 square kilometers of mining land, is now seeking investors to extract more than 20 million pounds of uranium—yes, from Guyana, and is presenting this country to the world, as a mining-friendly country with a pro-mining government.
I don’t think some of you are fully grasping what that means.
This Canadian firm is advertising to the world, that our Guyana’s forest/ our treasure box is wide open, and have a system with government, that allows them to come tek wha them want and go, just mek sure the Guyanese people get some plantain, yam and breadfruit for a meal when the day comes, and it’s all yours. Yes, that company was here searching 12 years now, and none of us knew, until one of my reporters came across that investor story online. Hmm…
Yuh know Guyana, this is not just about uranium, it’s about a pattern. Our gold… we bauxite…we timber, and that oil out there was all advertised the same way and sold for cassava. Yes, all our resources leaving in the US Billions monthly, while the country continues to grab loans to keep its people nose, above water.
How much longer this barefacedness, this eye pass, this irresponsible management of our natural resources will continue? When are you going to stand up and say enough is enough people? eh.
How much more of our resources will we, the owners allow the foreigners to dig out, cut down and pump out, before you the rightful owners say and do something?
Yuh know, at some point, we as a nation must pause and reflect—not just on what the country has, but on what we are receiving from it all. Because until that moment comes—the question will remain: when will enough… be enough? Please remember, true progress is not about what you get today, it’s about what you secure for tomorrow.
