(Kaieteur News) – The National Data Management Authority (NDMA), on Wednesday confirmed that two employees were fired on March 27, 2026 for the unauthorised use of the Tint Waiver Application System.
In a statement, the agency said that as Guyana’s lead public sector Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Agency, it remains committed to secure, transparent and resilient digital services and therefore does not condone any misuse of government systems.
“Safeguarding the integrity of national systems and preserving public trust in digital government services continue to be top priorities…as such, we can confirm that two employees were summarily dismissed on the 27th March 2026 following the unauthorised use of the Tint Waiver Application System,” it said.
NDMA revealed that the discrepancy was discovered through the Ministry of Home Affairs’ established routine audit mechanisms and controls. An immediate investigation was triggered, and the findings escalated. A thorough review of the evidence was done by an internal committee, with decisive disciplinary being taken.
It reiterated that it maintains a strict zero policy for the misuse of government or the breach of public trust. Manipulation of and unauthorised access of the system by these individuals, add up to serious violations of ethical standards, existing protocols and cybersecurity safeguards.
“Their conduct does not reflect the values or operational standards of NDMA, nor the high level of professionalism upheld by the many highly skilled Guyanese professionals advancing digital transformation within NDMA and Government of Guyana,” the NDMA added.
Furthermore, the matter will be referred to the relevant law enforcement authorities, and NDMA will continue to fully cooperate with the Ministry of Home Affairs, and other investigative bodies. A comprehensive review of access controls, audit mechanisms and system governance protocols is currently being done, to facilitate the further strengthening of existing safeguards across digital platforms.
“Additional measures are being implemented to enhance monitoring, accountability, and protection against unauthorised access, particularly among individuals involved in system administration, development, and assessment,” the agency said.
NDMA is assuring that the incident is an isolated one and is being handled with the highest level of efficiency and strict adherence to the Laws of Guyana. It said Home Affairs ministry and NDMA remain committed to ensuring the security of national systems and the upholding of public trust in digital government services.
