(Kaieteur News) – The motionless body of a man identified as 64-year-old Desai Pankai Roy Dasrath, was found in a room on the third floor of Sleep Inn Hotel at Church and Albert Streets.
According to sources close to the investigation, the discovery was made around 10:30 hrs. on Wednesday morning. Dasrath, a manager at S. Two Mining, Anna Regina was found lying motionless on the bed in room 315 at the Sleep Inn hotel.
The police were contacted and ranks of the Guyana Police Force (GPF) arrived on the scene at 11:00hrs. It was revealed that the deceased arrived in Georgetown on March 14, via a flight through the Eugene F Correia Airport.
“He was picked up from the airport by Nishal Appana, a 30-year-old Guyanese male of Indian descent and a driver of Lot 42 Croal Street, Enterprise, ECD, and taken to the Four Points Hotel where he stayed,” the source revealed.
This publication was informed that around 22:00hrs, Dasrath was transported to the Sleep Inn hotel where a room was booked for two nights. Appana told investigators that the deceased contacted him on Tuesday March 17, around 10:30hrs asking for directions to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) Outpatient department.
On Wednesday, Appana arrived at the hotel to deliver GYD $100,000 to Dasrath. The money was sent by his work place as he was scheduled to return to Venezuela on March 19, 2026. Several calls to Dasrath from Appana went unanswered, and he decided to go to his room and knock on his door, but got no response.
The receptionist was contacted and a bellboy was sent up to the room with a spare key. Upon reaching the room, Appana went into the room and discovered Dasrath lying motionless on a bed located on the eastern side of the room.
He was clothed in blue socks, long black pants and a long-sleeved blue shirt, his head facing east and his feet west. Emergency Medical Technicians were summoned to the scene, and the deceased was pronounced dead by Dr. Jagroo.
At the crime scene which was processed by ranks from the Crime Lab, GYD$27,000, USD$5, and medications were discovered in the deceased’s room amongst his personal belongings.
The source confirmed that there were no marks of violence seen on the body and the man’s remains were escorted to the Memorial Gardens Funeral Home awaiting a Post-Mortem Examination (PME)
Video footage from CCTV cameras were observed and are presently being viewed. Statements were taken and investigations are in progress.
