(Kaieteur News) – Dem boys seh it got a new kind of addict walking the streets these days. The scary thing is plenty of them don’t even know they addicted.
They walking normal. They talking normal. They even laughing normal. But watch them carefully and you will see the signs. Head bent. Eyes glued to a little glowing screen. Thumb moving up… up… up… scroll… scroll… scroll.
Dem boys seh some people can’t go five minutes without checking their phone. They wake up and before they even say a prayer or brush them teeth, the first thing they reach for is the phone. Before they sleep, same thing again. Phone in hand like it is oxygen.
Now some people addicted to alcohol. Some to cigarettes. Some to stronger substances that does mash up life and family. But dem boys seh there is a new addiction that might be even more dangerous. Smart phone addiction. Or more correctly… social media addiction.
And the frightening part is that the phone ain’t just a phone anymore. It deciding what you see and what you don’t see. It deciding what news you read. It deciding what people you angry with. It even deciding what you believe.
You think you in control. But dem boys seh the phone controlling you. Every scroll is like a little psychological trap. Every notification is like a tiny hook pulling you back. You tell yourself, “Just two minutes.” Next thing you know an hour gone. Then another hour. Then another.
Some people spending six… seven… eight hours a day scrolling. Eight hours! That is a full workday staring into a screen while life passing outside the window.
Children growing up. Books not being read. Conversations not happening. Minds getting tired but never resting. And the scariest part? The phone deciding what goes into your mind. A computer somewhere studying what you like, what you watch, what you click… and then feeding you more of the same until it build a little digital prison around your brain.
Dem boys seh plenty of people laughing at drug addicts and shaking they head. But the truth is some of we might be addicts too. Only difference is the substance not in a bottle or a pipe. It in we pocket. And every time the phone buzz… we reaching for the next hit.
Talk half. Leff half.
