(Kaieteur News) – Twenty-nine-year-old Herbert Hartman was chopped to death at his Tuschen New Scheme, East Bank Essequibo residence, following an argument with a fellow worker at a worksite in Tuschen.
According to the police, the deceased and the suspect, a 23-year-old construction worker of Tuschen Housing Scheme, are known to each other.
On Sunday, the men were earlier at a worksite in the area where they were imbibing alcohol when an argument reportedly ensued between them, during which the suspect allegedly threatened the deceased before leaving the location.
It is alleged that the suspect later went to the deceased’s residence armed with a cutlass where an altercation occurred. On Monday March 9, 2026 about 06:00hrs, the deceased was discovered lying motionless in a pool of blood at his residence with several chop wounds about his body. The body was escorted to the DeKinderen Regional Hospital where it was examined and pronounced dead. It was subsequently taken to the Ezekiel Funeral Home for a post-mortem examination. Police later contacted the suspect who was arrested and remains in police custody assisting with investigations.
