Kaieteur Sports – Upper Corentyne Industrial Training Centre and New Amsterdam Technical Institute (NATI) have become the first two teams to secure semifinal berths in the inaugural Modec Tertiary Education Football Tournament, following commanding quarterfinal victories on Friday and Saturday in Berbice.
After an exciting opening round, both sides underlined their title credentials with polished performances. On Friday, Upper Corentyne brushed aside Port Mourant Technical Institute 3-0, before NATI followed up on Saturday with an impressive 3-1 win over Government Technical Institute (GTI) to book their place in the final four.

Corentyne dangermen Joshua Marshall and Matthew Doris seal semifinal berth in 3-0 affair against PMTI.
Upper Corentyne set the tone early in Game 16, producing a disciplined and clinical display. Joshua Marshall opened the scoring in the 28th minute, calmly converting to give his side the advantage. The lead was doubled shortly after the restart when Matthew Doris struck in the 47th minute, and he returned in the 79th to complete his brace and seal a comprehensive 3-0 triumph.
While Port Mourant showed ambition, they were repeatedly frustrated by Upper Corentyne’s organised backline, which maintained control throughout to preserve a clean sheet.
Saturday’s clash at the Scott’s ground delivered another high-stakes encounter as GTI faced NATI in a decisive quarterfinal showdown. NATI wasted little time asserting themselves. Amare Caesar broke the deadlock in the 23rd minute, and Dane Singh extended the lead just five minutes later to put GTI on the back foot.
Leading 2-0 at the interval, NATI tightened their grip on the contest when Caesar grabbed his second in the 48th minute to make it 3-0. GTI managed a late consolation through Kevin David, but NATI remained composed, controlling the midfield exchanges and protecting their advantage to close out a 3-1 victory.

Amare Caesar double propels NATI into Modec’s semifinal, Dane Singh also netted a 28-minute strike in a 3-1 affair
Attention now turns to today’s fixtures, which will determine the remaining two semifinalists. Essequibo Technical Institute face the University of Guyana Turkeyen Campus in what promises to be a compelling encounter. Turkeyen enter with the stronger goal difference, but a confident Essequibo side, led by Deangelo Davidson, will be eager to stake their claim. UG’s Ronaldo Sobers and Sherwin Evans are expected to spearhead their attacking efforts as both teams chase a place in the semifinals.
Later, Linden Technical Institute take on Mahaicony Technical Institute for the final semifinal spot. Linden’s attractive style of play may give them the edge, but Mahaicony have shown resilience, including two dominant displays over the Guyana School of Agriculture in the opening round. With a semifinal berth at stake, neither side can afford a misstep.
Two teams have already secured their places, and by sunset today, the semifinal lineup will be complete. The semifinals are scheduled for later this week, with the grand finale set for Sunday, March 8.
The tournament is sponsored by Modec (Guyana) and supported by MACORP, Demerara Mutual Group, Powerade Energy, MVP Sports, and the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports. It is being organised by the Petra Organisation.ports. The tournament is also put together by the Petra Organisation.
