Grammar kill de party
(Kaieteur News) – A man decide tuh send out invitation to he daughter wedding. He call up he best friend, seh, “You design it, print it, an’ send it out by WHATSAPP — faster an’ cheaper.” Smart ting, yuh know.
So de friend ask de father of de bride, ask how de invitation supposed tuh read. De father seh, “Just write: ‘Your presence itself is a present. We don’t want any presents at de wedding.” Simple.
Now dis friend, grammar nah really good. He write it out, design it, send it out. When people read it, it seh:
“Your presence itself is a present we don’t want. Any presents at de wedding.”
After reading it a few times, most people seh, “Nah man, we better stay home.” Wedding turn out empty… yuh understand? Grammar kill de party!
Dem boys laugh, dem seh it remind dem of one time when dem get invitation tuh party. De card seh, “Black tie only.” Dem boys dress proper… ahhh, come de party, people wearing t-shirt an’ pants too. Dem seh, “Wait… wha? Is we over-dressed or dem under-dressed?”
An yuh know leh grammar correction can get yuh vex too. One friend call up another:
“Dude, me an’ Nick going tuh CPL game! Box seats, yuh coming?”
De second friend seh, “ It’s ‘Nick and I.’”
De first friend seh, “What?”
De second friend seh, “Yeah man, proper grammar! Me an’ Nick nah correct, it suppose be Nick and I.”
De first friend seh, “You right… it is Nick and I… because yuh nah invited no more!”
Talk half. Leff half.
