(Kaieteur News) – The Ministry of Housing’s Central Housing and Planning Authority (CHPA) is seeking bids for the construction of a connector road from Leonora, West Coast Demerara to Versailles, West Bank Demerara, Region Three.
According to a tender issued by the housing ministry, the project will be executed in five lots. Bidding will be conducted through the National Competitive Bidding (NCB) process, specified in the Procurement Act 2003 and is opened to all eligible bidders.
The ministry detailed that the delivery/ construction period for lots one to five is ten months. The ministry noted that two pre-bid meetings will be hosted; one on February 26 at CHPA’s projects officer’s boardroom, and on February 27 at Leonora Stadium parking lot to facilitate a site visit.
Bids are expected to open on March 12, 2026 at the National Procurement and Tender Administration Board (NPTAB) office.

CHPA’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Dr. Martin Pertab and his team during a site visit at road alignments in October last year.
Kaieteur News understands that the connector road, which will measure some 7.1km, will be part of the alignment the government intends to build from Leonora to Canal Number One.
CHPA’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Dr. Martin Pertab and team visited the proposed alignment for the Leonora to Canal Number One highway in October, last year.
The CEO said the road will serve as an interconnected link to improve accessibility to several active land and housing developments in the region.
“If you were to travel from Leonora to Canal Number One right now, it takes roughly 45 minutes. With this new road, we’re proposing to reduce travel time to approximately seven minutes,” Dr. Pertab stated.
At the time he stated that the project is currently in its design phase and once the designs were finalised, CHPA would move to the tendering stage, paving the way for construction.
It was reported previously that the government will be building a new four-lane highway from Versailles to Parika, and a Schoonord to Wales Highway.
This publication understands that these critical road links are aimed at enhancing connectivity and unlocking housing and development potential along the West Bank and West Coast of Demerara.
The project will form part of the $159.3 billion which was approved for the housing ministry in this year’s budget.
