(Kaieteur News) – A man identified as ‘Muncho’ was on Wednesday morning killed after the excavator he was operating toppled and pinned him to his death at Mango Landing, Region Eight.
Up to press time, no official police report was released about the incident, but information reaching Kaieteur News revealed that the fatal incident occurred between 09:00hrs and 10:00hrs.
A porter who was on the ground when the incident occurred told this publication that the now dead man was the driver of a truck which was transporting a brand-new excavator on its trailer to a location in Mahdia.
The porter related that the truck driver was attempting to offload the excavator from the trailer to load onto the pontoon when the incident occurred.
He recalled seeing the driver in the seat of the excavator and in the process of offloading the heavy-duty machinery it reportedly slid off the trailer and toppled several times into a nearby ditch.
“When I watch I see he going over and the man go for jump out but the door or something lash him in his back and trapped him,” the eyewitness recalled.
Videos seen by this publication showed the man lying face down, with the upper part of his body outside and the lower part trapped beneath the excavator’s cabin.
Kaieteur News understands that police in the area was alerted of the incident. Another excavator from the area reportedly came to help lift the toppled machinery to remove the dead man’s body.
The incident is currently under investigation.
