(Kaieteur News) – Dem boys seh if yuh taking home $91,000 a month and four hungry eyes watching yuh walk through the door like yuh is a delivery truck, something wrong somewhere. Either yuh eyes playing tricks on yuh, or yuh life plan buss a U-turn and drive straight into confusion.

Entry-level salary is not family package. It is survival package. It is for you to be living with Ma and Pa. Not to have to pay school fees, rent and provide for a family of yuh own.

Entry-level employment is not suitable for dependents. When yuh just start wuk, yuh job description supposed to be learning, not providing fuh a family. When yuh starting at the bottom, yuh salary supposed to stretch from minibus fare to lunch and maybe one lil Friday beer. It was never designed to stretch to rent, grocery, gas, school shoes, diapers, and dinner at de Marriott.

Yet somehow, man taking home $91,000 and feel he ready to be the Minister of Household Affairs. One salary. No partner working. And rent due like it running a relay race. Dem boys seh that is not bravery; that is arithmetic abuse.

Let we be real. Dem boys work out a living wage at $138,380 a month( with two parties working). And dem boys know some private sector firms now paying $150,000 for entry-level just to get people to show up. That alone should tell yuh something. If yuh not touching $138,380 and yuh partner not working, marriage should remain in draft form,  and having children should be postponed.

Dem boys seh when yuh young and just start wuk, yuh supposed to live at Ma and Pa. That is not shame; that is strategy. That is called buffering yuh life. Yuh save money, yuh build yuhself, and yuh eat food that don’t require a loan. If yuh insist on moving out early, be prepared: rent not cheap, food far from cheap, and furniture? Lawd. Unless yuh inheriting a bed, a table, and a sofa, yuh bank account going to cry before yuh mattress touch the floor.

So dem boys seh: entry-level is not breadwinner level. Wait yuh turn. Build yuh income. Then build yuh household. This is not wickedness. This is the law of life—and unlike rent, it don’t negotiate.
