(Kaieteur News) – Faced with a major, life-threatening condition that requires specialist surgical operation, a severely debilitated Mark Emmanuel, a 28-year-old Williamsburg, Corentyne resident is mounting a desperate call for public assistance to offset his substantial medical expenses.
The father of three is battling a crippling brain tumor which has disrupted his livelihood, sending his family in a mode of panic as they contemplate how they will acquire the nearly $5million needed for him to travel to Trinidad to perform the operation. The family so far, was able to find alternatives in India, which will be at a cheaper cost.
Speaking to Kaieteur News, Emmanuel’s wife said the family became aware of his condition back in 2024, between August and September. She said he was experiencing frequent bouts of fainting and seizures while on the job. The situation caused him to be sent home from work.
“He does not work since before we found out he have the brain tumor because he was sick and was on sick leave very often with seizures, until we do test and MRI which shows he a have brain tumor, and….Guysuco Estate lay him off because he does pass out at work with seizures,” she told this publication.
Currently, he is on medication as he awaits his overseas operation, for which the family is seeking financial help. As soon as it is secured, he will be flown to India.
The young man reportedly sustained a blow to the left side of his head from a sledgehammer back in 2018, which he confirmed may be the origin of his woes six years later.
Emmanuel complains of severe weakness and difficulty walking. His head is at times swollen, reducing when treatment is taken. Furthermore, the left side of his body is feeble, making him unable to perform many basic personal tasks on his own. He is mainly grounded.
“We (are) trying to get the money to go India ASAP because he’s really getting sick, now at the moment he’s really sick,” she related.
“Right now, he cannot do nothing for himself. As for four days now, he cannot walk without help, he use to move about but these days he’s feeling really sick. We (are) trying to get the money to go India ASAP because he’s really getting sick, now at the moment he’s really sick. He needs a chance in life, he wants to be back on his feet for his family especially the kids,” she related.
