(Kaieteur News) – The family of an 80-year-old woman who has been missing for over two weeks, is in state of deep distress, as they claim that they have not been receiving any assistance from the relevant authorities.
Missing is Venus Henry of lot 1560 Parfaite Harmonie, West Bank Demerara (WBD). She was last seen at home on January 10, 2026 around 10:00hrs. At the time, she was wearing a burgundy top with a black flowered skirt.
The family is calling for the woman’s safe return and assistance from the Guyana Police Force (GPF).
Speaking with Kaieteur News on Tuesday, Henry’s daughter, Yonette Mc Allister shared details about the last time she saw her mother and the ordeal in trying to locate her.
Mc Allister stated that she was speaking with her mother in the yard on January 10, when she felt tired and left her to take a rest. She said she was awakened several hours later by her children who indicated that they had not seen or heard from their grandmother. “The last place I saw her was outside and we were talking. She tells me that she was going to take a bath and I tell her that I going to sleep. My kids then decided to give her lunch and when they go calling for her there is no granny, she was already gone,” she said.
Henry did not return the following day, which led Mc Allister to file a missing person report at the La Parfait Harmonie Police station. She said since then, she has not received any updates from the authorities.
Several days later, family members took matters into their own hands by posting flyers around the area and on social media. Mc Allister said a woman came across a social media post and told her that she saw her mother at the Guyana Bank for Trade and Industry (GBTI) at Vreed En Hoop on the same day she went missing. “On the same day, a girl in Vreed en Hoop junction said that she was going in Bell West and my mom took the same car with her to go down in Wales. They were trying to question her but she was not familiar with the area. She came off before my mom and told the driver to take her to the station, but she said she want to go to the bank to draw money and then nothing.”
The next day, the family went to the bank seeking video footage from that day, but were unsuccessful.
Mc Allister said she made several police reports to other stations on the West Bank including Vreed en Hoop, and Wales but to no avail. “The police ain’t even helping. We went to the bank for footage and them ain’t giving we anything.”
Mc Allister told Kaieteur News that her mother is not fully familiar with the area as she lived on the Corentyne, Berbice and only moved in with her four years ago after her husband passed away. She said Henry has also been having troubles with her memory, which she believes further complicates the situation.
Mc Allister said since her mother’s disappearance, she has encountered sleepless nights, deeply concerned about the well-being of her mother. “It is so hard knowing that she is out there and we can’t find her. We don’t know where else to look,” she said.
The emotional daughter described her mother as a kind person and a wonderful grandmother who assist her with the children and served as a great company in the home.
The woman is calling for the safe return of her mother and if anyone is aware of the whereabouts of Henry can contact her using the numbers: 6414271 and 6323067.
Meanwhile, Assistant Commissioner divisional commander Mahendra Siwnarine confirmed with this publication that a report was made and police are investigating the matter.
