(Kaieteur News) – Dem boys notice de government finally putting lil muscle behind clearing encumbrances on public roads. Dat is good news, because for years now, public road turn private property faster than you could seh “encumbrance”.
But while dem boys clapping one hand, de other hand scratching head, because action without proper follow-through is like widening road and then blocking it yuhself.
Dem boys seh first things first: when de authorities decide to clear roads, dem must give proper notice. Not notice whisper-soft, neither. Real notice. Loud notice. Notice so clear that even de man selling plantain chips pretending he ain’t hear would have no excuse. Because chaos on public roads ain’t happen overnight, and it won’t disappear overnight either—unless people know exactly what coming.
Dem boys remember clear-clear when Amazona Mall Road junction and East Bank Public Road bin turn into one big open-air market. Vendors everywhere. Traffic squeeze so tight, even bicycle had to wait. Authorities give notice, vendors bin asked to move, and when some pretend deaf, dem was moved. Traffic breathes again. People clap. End of story? No sir.
Because like bush after rain, vendors grow back. Not in de same numbers, but enough to choke de junction during peak hours. And now, after de government widen Amazona Road to improve traffic flow, a new set of encumbrances appear—hire car drivers parking exactly where a turning lane supposed to be.
Dem boys nearly laugh till dem cry. Widen de road to ease traffic, then turn de turning lane into a hire car park? Dat is like buying bigger pot and still cooking outside. What supposed to help traffic now helping confusion, and worse yet, danger. Vehicles turning south dodging parked cars, drivers guessing, pedestrians praying.
Dem boys seh this is no small matter. Is a serious accident waiting for a date. Authorities must act now—not tomorrow after somebody get hurt and everybody asking questions. Clear de vendors. Clear de illegal car park. Keep de junction clear and keep it that way.
Public roads is for de public, not for hustling, parking, or experimenting. Dem boys seh: do de right thing, do it properly, and do it before de junction make headline for all de wrong reasons.
Talk half. Leff half.
