(Kaieteur News) – The suspect in connection to the murder at Barakat Landing was on Friday arrested by police.
According to a statement from police, the incident which occurred on Sunday January 11, 2026, at Barakat Landing, Cuyuni River, resulted in the death of Matthew Ramlichan, a 27-year-old pork-knocker of the Soesdyke-Linden Highway.
Police, acting on information went to Barakat Backdam where they contacted a 38-year-old gold miner of Half Mile, Wismar, Linden. The suspect was informed of the allegation, cautioned and subsequently arrested.
“Two Venezuelan nationals, both females aged 37 and 27 years respectively, who were present at the location, were also arrested. All three individuals are currently in police custody and are assisting with the ongoing investigation,” police said.
On Monday police said that an investigation has been launched in Region Seven into an alleged stabbing incident which involved two brothers. One was critically injured and the other dead.
“Inquiries revealed that the two brothers, who are employed as pork knockers in the area, became involved in a heated altercation with another male at the landing during the evening hours,” police said.
It was reported that during the altercation, the suspect armed himself with a pair of scissors, dealing both siblings several stabs about their bodies. Subsequent to the attack he fled the scene, making good his escape.
