Kaieteur Sports – After facing some criticism over timing, the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) on Monday staged a timely and well-attended prize presentation ceremony, officially closing the 2025 domestic football year with the distribution of more than GYD $4.9 million in prizes.
The ceremony was held at the National Training Centre (NTC) Pavilion in Providence, where clubs and standout players from the Women’s Division One League Cup and the Super 16 Men’s Football Championship were formally rewarded for their performances during the recently concluded season.

According to the Federation, the cheque presentation underscores its commitment to incentivising performance, providing financial support to clubs and players, and strengthening the development of both men’s and women’s football across Guyana.
GFF Vice President Dion Inniss and General Secretary Pushpargha Chattopadhyay led the proceedings, officially presenting prize cheques to the respective teams and individual award recipients.
The Women’s Division One League Cup capped off a competitive season marked by steady improvements in participation, visibility, and technical quality, reflecting the continued growth of women’s football locally.
In the women’s competition, Guyana Defence Force FC emerged as champions and received GYD $300,000. The second-place finisher collected GYD $200,000, while Santos FC secured third place and earned GYD $100,000. Fruta Conquerors FC rounded out the prize recipients with GYD $50,000 for their fourth-place finish.

Meanwhile, the GFF Super 16 Cup delivered a successful return to the local domestic season, featuring high-level competition, strong fan turnout, and standout individual performances boasting the Men’s game after a well-attended Elite League.
Western Tigers FC were crowned champions after edging Slingerz FC 1–0 in the final, earning a top prize of GYD $2,000,000. Slingerz FC, as runners-up, received GYD $1,000,000. Guyana Defence Force FC and Guyana Police Force FC finished third and fourth, earning GYD $750,000 and GYD $500,000 respectively.
Individual excellence was also recognised, with Kevon Woodley claiming both the Most Valuable Player and Top Goal Scorer awards. He received a combined financial reward of GYD $175,000 for his outstanding contributions. The Golden Glove award for Best Goalkeeper went to Joel Yhap, who was awarded GYD $75,000.
The prize presentation brought the 2025 domestic season to a formal close, reinforcing the GFF’s stated objective of rewarding excellence and fostering sustainable growth across all levels of football in Guyana.
