(Kaieteur News) – Police are currently investigating the discovery of a firearm and ammunition on Saturday, in a motor vehicle parked on Croal Street, Georgetown, in the vicinity of the route 40 minibus park.
Ranks of the CID anti-crime patrol, following a report, proceeded to the location, where they observed a silver-grey car, parked with several males standing nearby.
No one immediately claimed ownership of the vehicle or the driver’s whereabouts. Ranks however conducted a search of the vehicle, where they discovered one Taurus .32 pistol along with eight live matching rounds in the magazine, concealed in a compartment beneath the radio deck.
A 26-year-old bus conductor of Sideline Dam, Buxton, was later identified as the driver. When shown the firearm and asked if he was the holder of a license, he replied in the negative. He was cautioned and arrested.
Subsequently, a 32-year-old businessman from South Ruimveldt, the vehicle’s owner, arrived at the scene. He was also taken into custody.
Both suspects were escorted to the Brickdam Police Station, and the motor vehicle has been lodged. The firearm and ammunition have been marked, tagged and handed over to the ballistic section for processing.
Efforts are currently underway to locate a third individual as investigations continue.
