(Kaieteur News) – Police in Regional Division #5 have taken two men into custody following the discovery of 3.70 kilograms of suspected cannabis during a mobile patrol along the Naarstigheid Public Road, West Coast Berbice.
The bust occurred at about 15:45hrs on Saturday, January 3, 2026, when ranks on patrol stopped a motorcycle travelling in the direction of Georgetown with two male occupants. During a search of a haversack worn by the pillion rider, police found nine parcels containing leaves, seeds and stems suspected to be cannabis.
The motorcycle driver, a 31-year-old man of Savannah Park, New Amsterdam, and the pillion rider, a 23-year-old man of Stanleytown, New Amsterdam, were immediately arrested. Both suspects, along with the narcotics, were escorted to the Fort Wellington Police Station, where the substance was weighed in their presence and amounted to 3.70 kilograms. The cannabis has since been lodged as evidence. Both men remain in police custody as investigations continue.
