(Kaieteur News) – A 47-year-old Chief Security Officer was on Friday charged with possession of a firearm and ammunition offence.
The accused, Edward McCollin called ‘Butler’ of South Vryheid’s Lust, East Coast Demerara appeared at the Sparendaam Magistrates’ Court before Magistrate Clive Nurse where the charges of Possession of a Firearm without a Licence and Possession of Ammunition without a Licence, contrary to Section 16(2)(a) of the Firearms Act, Chapter 16:05, were read to him.
McCollin pleaded not guilty to both charges and was granted $400,000 bail. The matter was adjourned to February 18, 2026.
According to initial police reports, during an operation on January 1, ranks of Regional Police Division 4 ‘C’ observed the 47-year-old man standing among several individuals at the Sparendaam/Plaisance Railway Embankment area. Upon noticing the police, he moved away from the location in a hurried manner and was subsequently intercepted.
“A search was conducted on his person, during which ranks found one (1) suspected 9mm Taurus pistol along with a magazine containing five (5) suspected 9mm rounds of ammunition,” police reported.
McCollin was subsequently taken into custody and an investigation was launched.
