(Kaieteur News) – A 21-year-old labourer was on Friday sentenced to eight months’ imprisonment in relation to two separate break-and-enter incidents in Mabaruma, Region One.
The accused, Keshon Mendonca of Thomas Hill, Mabaruma, North West District, was charged with breaking and entering the home of a 38-year-old female gold miner of Settlement Village, Mabaruma, between December 19 and 20, 2025. During that incident, items valued at approximately $200,000 were reportedly stolen.
Mendonca was also charged with break and enter with intent after unlawfully entering the same residence again between December 28 and 29, 2025.
He was arrested by police on December 29, 2025, and subsequently charged in connection with both incidents.
Mendonca appeared before Magistrate Clive Nurse at the Mabaruma Magistrates’ Court, where the charges were read to him. He pleaded guilty to both offences and was sentenced to eight months’ imprisonment on each charge, with the sentences to run concurrently.
