Dear Editor,
This time of year, preparations have already begun for the holidays. Shopping is in full swing and parties have begun. The entire populace was looking forward to the holiday cash grant, but newly announced timing of 2026 is out of sync with the current need.
CRG encourages the government to quickly distribute the money before the holiday season is over and honour their election pledge. But based on the PPPC’s General Secretary’s comments, this is no longer a possibility. Something which was clearly known while the elections were being held. Timing is everything and the delay is very inconvenient, especially for those who had planned to use the cash grant during this holiday season. Keeping a promise builds good will, breaking it during such a special occasion for many will destroy trust and confidence. A disappointing accomplishment just achieved by the government. The voters will surely keep this broken promise in mind during future elections.
As Guyanese, we know how to make the most of the little, we have and enjoy the holidays with or without plenty. Good friends and close family make the difference and helps keep the holidays enjoyable. Independent of what the government does concerning the holiday cash grant CRG wishes everyone a great holiday season. May good health, joy and safe travels accompany you and your family this season.
Best wishes,
Mr. Jamil Changlee
Chairman
