Kaieteur Sports – The much-anticipated Guyana Football Federation (GFF) Super-16 Year-End Cup starts tonight with a double header at the National Training Centre (NTC) in Providence, signalling the start of what promises to be a fiercely contested tournament.

Elite League MVP, Darron Niles, makes a tackle in the Slingerz FC vs GDF FC clash. Both teams will enter as favourites in the Year-End tournament.
With $2M prize awaiting the champions, the action begins at 6:30 pm when Uitvlugt FC face Ann’s Grove United, setting the tone for the month-long competition.
The night’s second matchup follows at 9:00 pm, featuring a Georgetown rivalry as Santos take on Camptown FC, a fixture expected to produce fireworks under the NTC lights.
Before the first whistle, organisers will stage a brief opening ceremony, showcasing participating clubs, officials, and key stakeholders, officially ushering in one of the federation’s premier events.
According to the GFF, this year’s Super-16 Cup brings together the top performers of the recently concluded Elite League Season 7 and standout Regional Member Association (RMA) teams from across the country.
The competition features a unique, split round-robin group phase, providing an early test for emerging contenders while giving four Elite League giants a direct path into the quarter-finals.
The automatically seeded quarter-finalists, placed atop each of the four groups with Elite League Champions in Group A, Western Tigers in Group B, Group C will feature the Guyana Police Force and the Guyana Defence Force in Group D.
The remaining 12 teams, comprising Elite League finishers from 5th to 9th place along with seven RMA representatives, have been drawn into three-team groups, where only the strongest will earn the right to challenge the seeded favourites.
Elite League teams in the group stage are Monedderlust FC (Group A), Den Amstel (Group B),
Santos FC (Group C), Ann’s Grove (Group D) and Fruta Conquerors (Group C).
The Regional Member Association teams will see Strikers FC (Rupununi), Buxton Stars (East Coast) in Group A, Beacon FC (Georgetown) and Zeelugt Defenders (West Demerara) in Group B, Camptown FC (Georgetown) in Group C and Group bringing together Mahaica Determinators (East Coast) and Uitvlugt Warriors (West Demerara).
At the end of the group phase, the four group winners will advance to the semi-finals, with predetermined matchups; Group A winner vs Group C winner, and Group B winner vs Group D winner.
