(Kaieteur News) – The case surrounding the deadly terrorist attack at the Mobil Gas Station continued on Wednesday at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court, with prosecutors disclosing that additional evidence was recovered from the bombing site and sent to India for forensic testing.
The matter came before acting Chief Magistrate, Faith McGusty. Appearing virtually in court were the main suspect, 33-year-old Venezulean Daniel Alexander Ramirez Poedemo; 44-year-old Venezulean Alexander Bettancourt; Venezulean national Kyrstal LaCruz; and Guyanese Johnny Boodram.
During the proceedings, Police Prosecutor Mandel Moore informed the court that two new items were recently discovered at the Regent and King Streets bombing site near the gas station. He explained that the evidence has already been dispatched overseas for detailed analysis and that the prosecution is awaiting the results. As a result, full disclosure remains incomplete, prompting the prosecution to request an adjournment until December 16 to finalise the process.
Attorneys Nigel Hughes, representing LaCruz, and Mikel Puran, representing Boodram, offered no objections, and the court accordingly granted the adjournment. The accused were further remanded.
The suspects are charged in connection with the October 26 bombing, which claimed the life of six-year-old Soraya Bourne. Poedemo faces a separate indictable charge of committing an act of terrorism on October 26, allegedly using an explosive device at the Mobil Fuel Station with intent to threaten Guyana’s sovereignty and security or to instill fear among the population. He was not required to enter a plea. Bettancourt, LaCruz, and Boodram are jointly charged with aiding and abetting Poedemo in carrying out the attack.
