(Kaieteur News) – A 44-year-old man is now dead after the car he was driving lost control and slammed into a utility pole along the Good Hope Public Road, Mahaica, East Coast Demerara (ECD) on Friday morning.
The dead man has been identified as Julius Mandella Haniff of Edinburgh, East Bank Berbice.

According to police reports, the accident occurred around 03:38hrs on Friday, and involved motor car PAG 9310, which is owned by Paray Kuldip and was driven by Haniff and 39-year-old Yurajwatie Hussain, who is currently pregnant was the lone passenger.
Reports are that the car was travelling west along the southern lane of the Good Hope Public Road when the driver lost control on the wet roadway due to rainfall. The car subsequently crashed into a concrete utility pole on the southern grass parapet.
As a result of the crash, both occupants sustained injuries and were rushed to the Mahaicony Cottage Hospital for medical attention. Hussain was examined and later discharged, while Haniff succumbed to his injuries at approximately 10:10 hrs. on Saturday. Investigations are ongoing.
