Kaieteur Sports – A brilliant opening stand of 158 from Ben Dawkins and Issac Mohammed steered England to a tense two wicket win over the West Indies yesterday at the National Cricket Stadium, Grenada.
West Indies had another good batting innings posting 276-9 after 50 overs, after Zachary Carter blasted 87 from 59 balls, nailing 9 sixes and 4 fours.
Matthew Miller provided the last innings surge with a steady 44 (3×4), opener Tanez Francis and captain Joshua Dorne scored 24 runs apiece, with 28 from Isra-el Morton.
England’s bowling was effective, led by Luke Hands (2-52), Captain Farhan Ahmed (2-51) and Manny Lumsden (2-31).
England’s chase was led by openers Dawkins who stroked 97 off 100 (9×4 3×6) and Mohammed 74 off 75 (3×4 5×6).
Windies bowling was led by Vitel Lawes who returned 3-42 with help from Jakeem Pollard (3-39) and Deshwan James (2-49).
Contributions from Ben Myers (13), Ralphie Albert (14), Ahmed (16) Hands (16*) and Lumsden (15*) held their nerves to get the English lads to 277-8 after 49 overs.
