180 km/h recorded as new traffic system nails 15,000 speeding drivers
– 21 licences suspended
(Kaieteur News) – Guyana’s roads have become a danger zone, and the numbers exposed last week by Traffic Chief Mahendra Singh show just how out of control some motorists have become.
Singh revealed that almost half of the staggering 32,768 speeding tickets issued for the year came directly from the Road Intelligence System, which has been quietly capturing drivers tearing across the country at insane speeds—as high as 180 km/h.

“I think the only thing left for some of them is to pull the gear shift and fly the vehicle into the air,” Singh said, disgusted by the level of recklessness being recorded.
There were approximately 47,000 tickets issued for traffic related offenses this year, from January 1 to the time of his presentation.
In a shocking revelation Singh said that, “21 driver’s license would have been suspended for the period from January 1 to present day, for drivers who would have been involved in accidents, most of them caused by dangerous driving charge.”
Additionally, 1,428 persons were charged with driving under the influence, with fines ranging from $200,000 down to $5,000 and or a reprimanding discharge.

I do not know if Guyana has a system of progressive fines for speeding, if not it is time to implement it. The higher the speed the higher the fine. If you do have it then those fines need to be more draconian up to and including auctioning off vehicles that are either too fast or repeat offenders
