(Kaieteur News) – The Ministry of Public Works on Friday announced that some 42 vendors from the community of Buxton who operate along the Railway Embankment will be relocated to facilitate the completion of the ongoing road works.
According to the ministry, Minister of Public Works, Juan Edghill met with the vendors on Friday where he discussed their relocation and the government’s objective of creating safe roadways and establishing designated vending areas which will allow persons to continue maintaining their livelihoods.
The ministry stated a market tarmac will be constructed within the vicinity of the Buxton-Foulis Neighbourhood Democratic Council (NDC).
“The initiative which is being developed, is expected to aesthetically pleasing for the vendors and as such, a proposed design for stalls will be shared with the vendors. The new tarmac will also be outfitted with amenities including washroom facilities and proper lighting,” the ministry explained.

The ministry said work on the new tarmac is expected to be completed within three weeks and in the interim, vendors are allowed to ply their trade in their current location.
During his visit to the area, the minister also met with residents who are within the alignment of the ongoing road widening project, encroaching on the roadways with their fences. He notified them that their fences will have to be removed in the new week for the continuation of the road project.
